Diako Ebrahimi, Ph.D., is an associate professor of Quantitative Biology at the Texas Biomedical Research Institute. He leads a quantitative biology program focused on viral and cancer genomics, with emphasis on identifying population-specific virus–host interaction mechanisms and deconvolving dysregulated processes in cancer.
He received his Ph.D. in Quantitative Chemistry (Chemometrics) from the University of New South Wales and previously served as an NHMRC Research Fellow in Australia and as research assistant professor at the University of Minnesota.
Over the course of his career, he has trained scientists from widely varying backgrounds, including chemistry, virology, and bioinformatics. His current laboratory continues this interdisciplinary tradition, bringing together expertise in genetics, virology, cancer biology, bioinformatics, mathematics, and artificial intelligence. Dr. Ebrahimi is principal investigator on multiple awards, including an R01 on donor-specific antiviral immunity mediated by APOBEC3 enzymes.
He has published 49 papers in journals such as Nature Microbiology, Nature Communications, PLoS Biology, Molecular Biology and Evolution, and Science Advances, and has developed several open-access bioinformatic tools for the analysis of complex viral and cancer datasets.
