The San Antonio Fire Department's, Mobile Integrated Health program (MIH), is transforming emergency response by addressing crises, preventing emergencies, and tackling social determinants of health exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, such as the opioid crisis.

During the pandemic, MIH demonstrated resilience by supporting underserved communities with at-home testing and vaccination programs. Now, with a growing national focus on mental health and substance use, MIH is leading healthcare reform through innovative programs aimed at reducing 911 calls.

This presentation highlights two key initiatives: the Overdose Prevention Crisis Response (OPCR) Team and the Polysubstance and Overdose Prevention Crisis Response (POLY) Team, showcasing MIH’s proactive and preventive approach to healthcare challenges. This series is hosted by the Center for Substance Use Training & Telementoring (C-STAT) at Be Well Texas.
