We invite clinicians, researchers, patients, caregivers, and community members to attend our upcoming seminar, hosted by the Perry & Ruby Stevens Parkinson’s Disease Center of Excellence. The series is part of our outreach and education efforts to share advances in Parkinson’s disease research and care.

Title: Neuropsychiatry of Parkinson’s disease: from bench to bedside.

Presented by: Antonio L. Teixeira, M.D., Professor of Psychiatry and Neurology, Biggs Institute

Summary:  Parkinson's disease (PD) is traditionally regarded as a movement disorder. Non-motor symptoms have been recognized as significant contributors to disability at all stages of the illness. Behavioral and psychological (or neuropsychiatric) symptoms are frequent in PD, including anxiety, depression, apathy, psychosis, sleep, and impulse control disorders. Their pathogenesis in PD is complex, involving neurodegenerative, drug-related, and psychological mechanisms. Their management can be challenging and involves the combination of pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches.
