The Statewide Dental Opioid Summit (SDOS) aims to significantly reduce opioid overdose mortality rates in rural areas through comprehensive education, training and implementation of evidence-based strategies.

 Objectives:

1. Enhance prescribing practices: Equip health care professionals with updated guidelines and best practices for opioid prescribing, emphasizing the importance of reasonable use and consideration of non-opioid alternatives.

2. Strengthen Monitoring and Intervention: Increase awareness and utilization of drug monitoring program (PMP) data to identify patterns of overuse and misuse, enabling timely intervention and referral to substance abuse counseling.

3. Promote Access to Naloxone and Counseling Services: Educate healthcare providers on the appropriate use of naloxone and integrate opioid substance abuse counseling into routine patient care, empowering communities to respond effectively to opioid overdoses and support individuals in their journey towards recovery.
